Kids have a lot of things to remember, i.e. multiplication tables, what they brought for lunch, what sport they want to play at recess. Passwords rarely make it to the top of their priority list.

But we weren’t born yesterday. We built a really easy way for facilitators to reset a coder’s password when they forget it. The cool part it, we’ve removed the “email a password reset link” that you are probably familiar with, and made it possible for them to reset it right then and there. Now coders don’t have to miss any time coding, and you don’t have to do too much to keep the wheels turning.

Step 1: Log in on THEIR computer

On the coder’s computer, navigate to https://app.prenda.co and log in with your admin username and password. It’s important to do this on their computer. It will take you to this screen:

Step 2:  Click “Coders”

From that screen, click the “Coders” button to the right of your code club name.

Step 3: Find the coder

This will take you to a list of all the coders who have ever created a profile in your code club. That page will look something like this:

If there are few enough names in that list you can manually scroll down until you find the name of the coder who has forgotten their username. If the list is long, you can use a keyboard shortcut to find the name quickly.

FOR MAC USERS: Press “Command + F” to search

FOR PC USERS: Press “Control + F” to search

FOR CHROMEBOOK USERS: Press “Ctrl + F”

Enter the coder’s first name, and find their account.

Step 4: Reset PW

Once you find the coder’s name, in the far right column you’ll see “Reset PW.” Click that link.

It will take you to a page that looks like this:

Click “Reset.”

It will log you out, and bring the coder to a page where they can create a new password.

I’d encourage them to write down their new password before it flies out the other side of their brain (better act fast!).

All said and done, the process should only take a minute or two, and before you know it the coder will be back in it making games or apps or websites!
