I'm not really sure how I won as some of my competitors' projects were kinda beautiful and I was making it on a chromebook in between classes but that's cool. The game was meant to be difficult but I made it a bit too hard so I made an easy mode and a boss fight instead. Unfortunately it was STILL too hard so I made a power-up you can use that makes hard mode actually possible, albeit barely.

Second Place: "Blizzard Bots"
Creator: TechNerd64

For Blizzard Bots, I really wanted the game to match the look of old Commodore 64 (C64) games, so I restricted myself to the C64's color palette. But, having a restriction in color was also my greatest challenge, for I didn't have many options to add detail or contrast.

Third Place: "Glacial Grid"
Creator: CodingFoxy

I had a hard time—I even deleted everything and restarted with just 20 days left! It was the first game I actually finished. Before this, I’d start projects but never complete them. I had no one to rely on: I’m the only girl in my class who codes, my family didn’t know much about it, and I wasn’t even in middle school yet, so there were no teachers or clubs to help. Somehow, I still don’t know how, I managed to do this well.

First Place: "Robo Quest: The Frozen Maze"
Creator: zannathezee

The thing that inspired me, was my coding lessons with Code Ninjas Enfield UK. They always encourage us to make different types of games, like platformers and top-downs. For this one, I wanted to use as many sprites as I could and even use my voice to guide the player because I wanted the kids who play the game to really enjoy it and have fun. My challenges were preventing my music for the levels from overlapping with each other, and getting my sprites to hide during the different levels. Also, my health for the player and the boss would eventually stop showing, so it took a lot of work to get them back. But I was proud of the final product in the end.

Second Place: "Frosty Snout"
Creator: ArthurDZCT
From the Creator:
It is a game with increasingly difficulties moving platforms; collecting keys is a requirement to pass to the end of the game. I decided to make this game like this because I like puzzle games, so I thought I would make one so other kids can have fun like I do when I play.

Shoutout to all participants—you brought the magic!
Our next coding contest starts June 1 and runs until July 31! It's going to be to create a gallery website to host images of photos and artwork of stars and planets using HTML/CSS/JS.
Here are the details and marketing materials for that competition, for all of our library partners.
