A Very Fiero Christmas Story
December 22, 2020

Last week, we got an email that lit us up. Belinda DeMott, Programming Librarian from Baldwin City Public Library in Baldwin City, Kansas reached out to share a story connected to their code club.

Baldwin City Public Library has been engaging code club through the IMLS grant, Code Club for Small & Rural Libraries for the past year or so. They had a coder, Jase McTaggart, a high school junior, volunteered to code up a Christmas light display at the library.

Check out the light show:

Pretty amazing, right?

The story doesn’t stop there. The local newspaper caught wind of what was happening at the library, and wrote a beautiful story:

After the newspaper article was published, Baldwin City Public Library found out they were awarded First Place in they city decorating contest! It doesn’t get much better than that.

We LOVE hearing stories of young coders putting their skills to use, and hope you enjoy and are inspired along with us. Way to go, Belinda & Wendy, from the Baldwin City Public Library, and way to go Jase – you’re amazing!

Merry Christmas, and happy holidays, Fiero community!
